It was a double dose of geek madness with the return of AMC’s Comic Book Men with the first two episodes from Season 5 last night.
In the premiere episode “Wookiee Fever” Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca himself, judged a wookiee call contest at the Secret Stash. To kick things off, a customer brought a vintage Don Post Chewbacca Halloween mask into the store. Kevin and the gang recalled their favorite Chewie moments from the films punctuated by Ming Chen’s awesome Chewie call. Ming’s rendition spurred the idea of having a contest for the best Chewie call and Rob Bruce set up Peter Mayhew’s visit to the Stash to judge the event.
The gang was in fine form and the banter between them was full of Star Wars jokes as they made their Chewbacca outfits. The highlight of the episode occurred when Peter Mayhew arrived and regaled the guys at the Stash with some stories from the Star Wars set.
The second episode of the evening, “Holy Zap Copter!”, featured Mike Zapcic’s ride in the original Bat Copter from the 60’s Batman TV series to celebrate his 15th year at the Stash. The episode began with one of the hottest books of the 90’s landing in the shop – New Mutants #98. This issue is of particular significance since it features the first appearance of Deadpool.
