While there are many different genres of horror movies the one that I have always loved watching is the zombie genre. To me the good ones are amazing and even the bad ones are watchable and also entertaining to poke fun at. However, as I was perusing my Netflix channel I came across a movie called Cargo and after watching it I was amazed on how good of a film this was. Now the folks over at Umbrella Entertainment have released this movie on blu-ray but is this a film you will want to watch again and again?

Cargo takes place in the Austrailian outback with a husband and wife, Andy and Kay as well as their cute 1 year old baby named Rosie. At first things are amazing. They are on a boat, they have enough supplies and they are in the middle of a river so they are safe. This takes place in a world where if you are bitten by a zombie you will become one 48 hours later. As they are on the river Kay sees another wrecked boat and decides to go over to the craft to see if there is anything to scavenge. However, things do not go as planned as a zombie comes out of a cupboard and bites Kay and now she is infected. Andy notices that Kay has gone missing and goes after Kay and he finds her bleeding from her wound. Scooping her and the baby into the car they head out looking for a hospital however, after an accident Andy wakes up from the crash and notices his wife has already turned into a zombie. When he tries to get himself and Rosie out of the car he gets bitten by his wife. The clock has started ticking and Andy has 48 hours to find a solution or he will turn into a zombie and probably feast on Rosie as well! This is the primer for the film and this setup makes for an amazing piece of cinema that you will want to watch again and again.

This blu-ray also has a few special features including two featurettes which are Shaping a Fragile Future which shows how the film came about from a short feature. The second one, Maternal Combat focuses on Natasha Wanganeen’s character “Josie” and how she prepared for her role in Cargo. Also included is a Q&A, interviews with the cast and crew and a theatrical trailer. However, one of the best extra features has to be the original short that Cargo was based on and you can watch that in its entirety on this blu-ray disc.

If you are a fan of zombie movies you need to go out and get a copy of Cargo on blu-ray as it has an amazing story with a cast of diverse characters and a fresh new take on the zombie genre.
