The latest trailer for Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted last night and the greatest thing about it was its final few moments. That’s not to say that the rest of the trailer was disappointing. Anything but. After months of speculation another villain, Doomsday was revealed. His arrival was epic but just a few notches below the splash Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) makes when she deflects his heat vision with her shield. Any doubts about how the Amazon Princess will come across in this film should be put to rest.
The trailer is visually stunning and features Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) matching wits face to face in both their civilian and superhero identities. Jesse Eisenberg brings a different tone to his version of Lex Luthor. He’s more youthful prankster than the criminal mastermind we’ve seen in previous incarnations.
We also get glimpses of Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and General Zod (Michael Shannon) as his corpse is wheeled through a hi tech facility. Does his DNA have anything to do with the appearance of Doomsday? Speaking of villains, Batman’s rogues gallery makes an appearance with a defaced bat suit covered in a spray painted message from the Joker.
Let’s get back the trailer’s final moments though. The shot of Wonder Woman flanked by Superman and Batman marks the first time DC’s big three has appeared on the silver screen and it’s stunning. Whether the film’s script holds up to the lofty expectations of the fan base remains to be seen, but the trailer’s visuals hit the mark and opening day can’t come fast enough.
