The world as you know it now has long since gone as tensions grew across the world. Wars, famine and disease ravaged the lands as someone touched off a conflict that lead to the final solution. Nations were cleansed in a wave of nuclear fire that snuffed out the light of millions in an instant. Years later nature has reclaimed what was once theirs as trees and vegetation grow in what was once a sprawling metropolis. You are a survivor of this new land. You are a mutant who has heard of a place where you can live in peace. This place has been dubbed Eden and you are charged with finding it or die trying. This is the world of Mutant: Year Zero Road to Eden a new game from FunCom and the Bearded Ladies!
You will be in control of three adventurers: Dux (a mutated duck that can talk as well as fight), Boromin (a mutated boar that is quick to anger) and Selma (who looks to be a human but with some mutations to give her an edge). These are just some of the characters you can meet as you try to find your way in this twisted new world. During the adventure you will explore ruined cities and highways in real time as you try to avoid the mutated creatures and robots that now inhabit this world. When you encounter an enemy the game shifts into a tactical combat system (like X-Com) where you can use whatever playstyle suits you. Will you sneak around in real time to avoid an encounter that might prove difficult or will you go in guns blazing in hopes you might get some precious loot?
During gameplay your character might collect up some useful mutations along the way as you might pick up one that can turn your skin to stone. These will prove useful in encounters but if you take too much stock in these you might fall by the wayside like other adventurers looking for Eden. You can always head back to the Ark as well to stock up on some new supplies, craft new weapons out of materials scavenged from the zone or go to the bar to scour for some new artifacts.
Mutant: Year Zero Road to Eden is currently in development for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 later this year and I am excited for this because it mirrors the pen and paper RPG released by Modiphus last year!
