In the golden age of sailing mankind strived to find new routes and unexplored territory. One of the more chronicled explorations has to be the Northwest Passage. The key to this new route would have opened up a safe passage to Asia where traders could claim their fortunes. In 1845 a expedition was headed by Sir John Franklin to chart the Northwest Passage. However, the expedition did not return and everyone had wondered what had happened to these brave explorers. There have been theories about the crew’s fate but no one actually knows what happened to them. This is the premise behind AMC’s new television series simply entitled The Terror.
The Terror takes place aboard a British navy’s expedition as they are not only battling the elements and the seas but each other. The crew is facing desperate odds of survival as their food stores are dwindling and madness is starting to set in. This is a tale that shows what happens when a crew of a sailing vessel is pushed past its breaking point. The Terror also shows what ships had to actually do back then to navigate frozen seas. They had to set out on the ice with various tools in order to try to free the ship and continue the expedition and discover uncharted territory. This was backbreaking work and would not just test a man’s body but his spirit as well!
I for one am excited for shows like this as it will take something that happened in the past and head in a completely different direction. This is a horror/drama show for AMC and will appeal to fans of other shows that are currently on AMC such as The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Is there something waiting for the crew out on the ice? Or is it just the dread that is setting in as they are trapped within a frozen wasteland. There is no telling as we have to wait and watch to see what is going to happen on this voyage.
A press release from AMC had this to say about The Terror, “Executive produced by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner 2049, The Martian), David Kajganich (A Bigger Splash) and Soo Hugh (“The Killing”) and starring Jared Harris (“The Crown,” “Mad Men”) as Captain Francis Crozier, Tobias Menzies (“Outlander,” “Game of Thrones”) as Captain James Fitzjames and Ciarán Hinds (“Game of Thrones,” “Rome”) as Sir John Franklin, the series features high-quality, distinctive imagery and landscapes with a visual quality that is emblematic in scale and scope of a Ridley Scott production.”
What will happen to the crew of the this expedition? Tune in Monday March 26th and find out and for more information go to http://www.amc.com/shows/the-terror and get ready to discover what the crew of Sir John Franklin really went through.
