As I’ve loved comics since I was a child I am always looking for a new experience and the best ones are the smaller publishers. They tell stories that no one else would and that is why I love reading them. One of these small companies is called Scout Comics and I recently had a chance to catch up with them.
TR: Please introduce yourself.
JH: James Haick, President of Scout Comics.
TR: What motivated you to start Scout Comics?
JH: My book SOLAR FLARE was picked up by Scout and I became friends with founder/CEO Brendan and Publisher James Pruett. I started helping out and eventually lead to me becoming a partner.
TR: What are some of the titles that you are known for?
JH: Scout is known for many great titles like Stabbity Bunny, Long Lost, The Mall, The Source, White Ash, Wretches, Gut Ghost, just to name a few.
TR: What writers/artists have you worked with?
JH: So many now it’s hard to keep track!
TR: One of your titles I read on FCBD tell us more about The Mall.
JH: I co-created THE MALL with another one of our partners, Don Handfield. It takes place in the 1980’s and is a coming of age crime story. It’s Breakfast Club meets Goodfellas. We are both very proud of our THE MALL team and of the first volume.
TR: Since it is the start of a new year can you tell us what you have in store for us?
JH: Many big announcements are forth coming. Including 3 new imprints and more than 20+ new titles! Stay tuned!
TR: Ok I am sold where can I buy some of these great titles!
JH: Our website www.scoutcomics.com or request all our books at your local comic shop.
TR: Any plans to bring any of these comics to either the big or small screen?
JH: For sure! Stay tuned for news on Long Lost, Henchgirl, (and) Solar Flare among others!
TR: If you had a chance to work with anyone in the comic book industry who would it be and why?
JH: Personally, Mike Allred. He’s my favorite artist and I nearly have every book he’s ever done.
TR: Do you have a favorite title?
JH: Smoketown. It’s a masterpiece.
TR: Anything else you’d like to add?
JH: I just want to conclude about how happy I am being part of this amazing company. We have big plans for 2020 and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
And there you have it folks! If you would like to know more about this company head over to https://www.scoutcomics.com/ to check out some of these great titles. Personally I am a fan of The Mall because it mixes a lot of great genres together and it is totally 80’s.
