The title pretty much sums it up, not too long ago it seems Epic games decided that they wanted Rocket League. Unable to get the game itself, they decided to buy the horse that drew the carriage and snapped up Psyonix: the creator of Rocket League.
The purchase was announced this afternoon, and the full acquisition will be finished by the end of May or beginning of June. Despite the recent purchasing of their company, Psyonix has promised to “continue to bring the full Rocket League experience across all platforms”. They continued to state on their blog that it will all be business as usual. Though whether that is true remains to be seen despite their promises. For example, whose to say Epic might not want to make the popular title an exclusive for themselves?
That said, for those of you on Steam who have already purchased the game? Never fear. While it is true that the game won’t remain on sale in the Steam Store once the acquisition is complete game owners who have already purchased the game will still be able to play it as normal.
As it stands, Psyonix seems to believe that this joint merger is “a great move for the Rocket League Esports ecosystem because it significantly increases our potential reach and resources, just like it does for the game itself. We really do believe that you’ll find our future in esports to be very exciting…”. One can only hope that it remains true, though let’s be honest I already own the game. As long as I can keep playing, I’m a happy camper.
