Mortal Kombat 11: More Of The Same

Managing to get grab some time at the Mortal Kombat 11 showing by Warner Brothers has confirmed once again one thing for me about the series. It will never, ever, change. While that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as some people love the game, to me it’s just bland.

I know some people are likely to read this and roll their eyes, thinking to themselves ‘it’s a fighting game, what do you expect’, and they are right. Heck, many might even state that the storyline is rather good and adds depth to the ever-growing realm that is Mortal Kombat. However, I just feel like the game, much like Assassin’s Creed, should be scrapped altogether in favor of a new IP.

While I won’t say the game isn’t fun, for what it is, if you’re not a long time fan of it you won’t be pulled in by anything. Warner Brother’s game has become a bit of a redundant do over, again and again bringing us the same gameplay with better graphics and some new characters along the way. That said, there will always be the regular characters that will consistently show up in the franchise and do the same song and dance again and again.
As you can see from the gameplay footage, the game plays like many other Mortal Kombat games. The only difference between this game and perhaps games of a few generations back being that the amount of graphical violence we can fit in the game has gone up. Allowing us to really see how messed up we can truly make our Mortal Kombat characters.

That said, instead of telling me that ‘you’re next’ why don’t you tell me ‘what’s next’ for you Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. I’m sure you have the skills and the necessary money to deliver a new and exciting game, I’m just waiting to see it.
