Marvel’s Daredevil 304 – Blindsided

Things begin to fall apart for a lot of the players involved with Wilson Fisk’s release. In Blindsided the stress has several characters looking for ways to cope with the potential danger hovering over their lives. Foggy, still reeling from seeing Matt in the flesh, searches for a way to protect himself and a potential run at the DA’s office is floated as a way to keep him safe. Nadeem has his own problems on the home front as his family buckles under the strain of him being directly affected by his involvement in the case. Matt also finds himself in a bit of difficulty when the results of his slight of hand last episode with Foggy’s wallet unravel into a bit of a mess during a visit to prison.

Assuming Foggy’s identity to gain entry into the prison, Matt tries to track down a way to get at Fisk and finds himself in a world of trouble. Fisk is onto him and so begins the cat and mouse game with Fisk pulling the strings. Daredevil has always been a physically brutal series and Matt’s brawl in the prison is a wonder to behold. The prison foray not only yields some pleasing hand to hand combat but also reveals an interesting twist that only adds to the legend of Wilson Fisk. One of the highlights of the episode is Matt’s escape from the prison riot and it evokes memories of a memorable one-shot scene from the first season of True Detective.

Meanwhile Karen stubbornly pursues any leads that may help to bring down Fisk. Her world gets another blow when Foggy shows up to reveal that Matt is indeed alive. Her frustration even boils over onto the streets revealing another side of the mild-mannered reporter that really hasn’t been hidden that far beneath the surface in the past.

A Wilson Fisk squeeze play delivers Agent Pointdexter into the Kingpin’s lap. Using the fallout surrounding the shootout during Fisk’s transfer out of prison to recruit the sniper into his fold Fisk appeals to the baser elements of Pointdexter’s psyche to worm his way into his soul. Fisk is a man who leaves no stone unturned and no opportunity unearthed. His tentacles reach far and wide and the scope of Fisk’s reach is never revealed but certainly hinted at in a way that makes the chances of Matt coming out on top a daunting proposition. Control is the order of the day in Blindsided and Fisk, with his latest moves playing out the way he planned them is in a position to control his destiny. One that sees Matt Murdock under water with no way of reaching the surface.
