If you are a fan of horror the one name that people mention again and again has to be Stephen King. The twisted mind of the master of horror has produced such great stories such as It, The Shining and Pet Semetary. One of the stories that I hadn’t heard of until now was a story called Salem’s Lot. FYE recently has released this classic on a new steelbook and I got my hands on a copy and these are my thoughts on this new release.

First lets take a look at the new art as you have a menacing vampire on the front with Salem’s Lot emblazoned on the bottom in red. The rear of the book has a menacing view of the house located on Salem’s lot partially shrouded in fog. And the interior shows a vampire in his coffin bearing his fangs as he looks as if he is being staked by an unknown entity. These images will get you in the mood to watch this cinematic masterpiece.

For those that haven’t seen this film (myself included until now) the story behind Salem’s Lot revolves around Ben Mears. He is a writer and used to live in a place called Jeruselum’s Lot (also called Salem’s Lot). He returns to the place he spent his childhood after twenty five years and makes friends with a high school teacher as well as a romantic interest. He has come back to his hometown to write about the Marsten house which is abandoned and he was afraid of this place during his childhood. What happens next is a series of terrifying events and not to give too much away we know that vampires play a big part of this story.

For special features there’s not that many on this disc as it did get a new treatment and it is in 1080p and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. There is a audio commentary on this disc from Tobe Hooper (he was the director on this film and has had a hand in other great hits such as Poltergeist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre). The other features is the international theatrical trailer restored to its full glory.

If you love Stephen King then you need to check this out as this is a hard movie to find and would be a great addition to your collection.
