Google has told us officially today that their newest brainchild, Project Stream, is going official. The idea of their newest service is to allow individuals the ability to stream any big blockbuster titles they want right through the Google Chrome Browser. The first game on the testing block, and which will be available this Friday, is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Google believes that by bringing this service to the public, that they can ensure that people don’t need to buy an expensive graphics card. Rather, all that gamers will need is a strong internet connection to enjoy titles that were previously unavailable to them.

Google had this to say in a blog post about the project: “We’ve been working on Project Stream, a technical test to solve some of the biggest challenges of streaming. For this test, we’re going to push the limits with one of the most demanding applications for streaming—a blockbuster video game.

We’ve partnered with one of the most innovative and successful video game publishers, Ubisoft, to stream their soon-to-be released Assassin’s Creed Odyssey® to your Chrome browser on a laptop or desktop. Starting on October 5, a limited number of participants will get to play the latest in this best-selling franchise at no charge for the duration of the Project Stream test.”

The company is currently trying to ensure that anyone in their trial session has at least 25 megabits per second or higher in terms of internet signal. I’m guessing this is done to ensure the best possible test scenario for the new program.

I’m just curious as to how this will actually play out, as I know my current internet would probably stutter trying to run Project Chrome. How about you guys, you think the idea has any merit or will be successful?
