Two weeks ago Disney decided to fire James Gunn due to tweets that were posted around 7-10 years ago that were very “edgy” and dealt with things such as rape and child molestation. However, people have said that he has changed during this time reasoning that people have a chance to grow and mature over time.
People are not supporting the jokes that he made years ago however, the actors behind the Guardians of the Galaxy are throwing their support behind James Gunn. In an open letter that went out via Instagram it states that “Each of us looks forward to working with our friend James in the future. His story isn’t over – not by a longshot”. While that means that they would love to work with him on another project does it translate to having him reinstated to Guardians of the Galaxy V.3? Chris Pratt spoke up in a tweet saying the following:
“Although I don’t support James Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man, I’d personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3.”

And with that Disney finds themselves right now in a quandary. Do they stand by their decision to keep James Gunn off that set and potentially lose millions of dollars in the process or do they let him back onto the movie and apologize for their rash judgement in firing him? In my honest opinion I think it would be wise for Disney to just eat crow and say they are sorry to James Gunn on this matter. After all like I said when this story broke Disney has a severe vetting process which they put all of their personnel through (and I am talking from the low workers in the park up to the high ranking people they work with). So these tweets are not anything new to Disney. They knew about them however, they thought it wouldn’t be an issue and for the most part it wasn’t until people brought it up.
