Fear the Walking Dead 404 – Buried

Buried takes a close look at the bonds and loyalty between the Clarks as the Vultures continue to make survival difficult for them. A calamitous domino effect shatters the tranquility of life at the stadium and replaces it with death, despair and regret. The shock of Nick’s untimely death stuns the members of the group, particularly those that knew him best. Althea’s investigative instincts kick in and her probing uncovers some truths regarding Alicia, Luciana and Strand’s recent past. Through flashbacks it becomes a little clearer how a series of missteps put the Clark clan on this dark path.

Pushed to their limits by the Vultures any optimism that Madison and the group have is soon squashed by their circumstances. With famine staring the group in the face, they split up and go on some supply runs. A creepy waterpark provides a few chills as Alicia and Naomi encounter some walkers while checking out an abandoned settlement. The settlement and the other supply runs yield some interesting supplies and revelations but also throws the loyalty of the group into question.

Buried plays like a documentary with Althea pulling the past out of her newfound comrades. Their on camera confessions come out of them like remorseful taps slowly dripping sorrow from their lips. In the flashback sequences Nick’s optimism to find new ways to replenish the dying resources at the stadium is one of a series of events that convince all involved to give their new home a chance instead of leaving and finding a new life elsewhere.

Some crushing news and an unexpected connection to the events at the stadium weighs heavy on John and splinters the new group. There’s a heavy dose of mystery surrounding things on Fear this season and with each episode the unknown continues to grow. Madison’s whereabouts in the present timeline are still unknown and with the ominous talk surrounding what happened at the stadium her fate seems bleak. With Nick’s death and Luciana, Alicia and Strand seeking to exact some sort of revenge on the Vultures it can only be assumed that they left their former home under the worst possible circumstances.

Buried is a study in loyalty, desperation and what extreme conditions can do to people and their will to survive. With the Clark clan in disarray and their new companions trying to gain their trust their ability to remain intact hangs by a thread. The domino effect that has brought them to their present fate has been a cruel one with no guarantee that they will be among the last dominos standing.
