The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going dark. The first trailer for the highly anticipated two-part finale to the first three phases of the MCU was released this morning on Good Morning America. The trailer contains much of what was already leaked during San Diego Comic Con this summer but is absent a few of the juicier tidbits. Shifting from outer space, to New York to Wakanda the trailer has an ominous tone. Thanos’ arrival will not be a joyous event and the worried looks on the faces of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Peter Parker underscore that fact.

Some of the trailer’s highlights include the first full look at Thanos, a couple of Iron Man armors, hints at how Bruce Banner returns to Earth after Thor: Ragnarock and Spider-Man’s new costume, which was revealed at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Glorious shots of armies in battle in the Wakandian countryside, the Vision and Scarlet Witch taking their relationship to another level and Loki presenting the Tesseract to someone help to round out the nearly two and a half minute trailer.

While the trailer does a great job of teasing the overall tone and arc of some of the characters involved all may not be as it seems. The trailers and television spots for Thor: Ragnarock left out most of the juicy details of that film including Thor’s new eye patch so things may change for this film as well.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
