At long last the highly anticipated official trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here! Episode 8’s trailer delves heavily into the Star Wars mythology with several call backs to the original trilogy and themes like fulfilling one’s destiny and the bonds of family woven into the narrative.
Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo (Ben Solo) Ren (Adam Driver) are on parallel paths of discovery that ultimately leads them back to one another. While Rey learns the ways of the Force from reclusive Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) Kylo continues his decent into darkness as one of the leaders of the First Order. Complicating matters for Ren is the presence of his mother, Leia Organa (the late Carrie Fisher) as he leads an assault against her forces. Rey’s journey is a complicated one as well. Searching for answers to harness the power that courses through her, she seeks guidance from Luke, whose faith in the Force and all things Jedi appears to be in tatters.
Also featured in the trailer are Finn (John Boyega), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) amid a plethora of space battles, light sabre duels and updated AT-AT walkers.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters December 15, 2017.
