AMC’s critically-acclaimed drama, Halt and Catch Fire makes it’s return Saturday, August 19 with a two-hour premiere to kick of its fourth and final season. Set in the 80’s and 90’s, Halt and Catch Fire chronicles the birth of the Internet and the rise of the tech industry that changed the world.
The final season follows the show’s cast of characters as they attempt to juggle the complexities of the competitive tech world with the challenges of their personal lives. Halt and Catch Fire stars Lee Pace (Joe MacMillan), Mackenzie Davis (Cameron Howe), Scoot McNairy (Gordon Clark), Kerry Bishé as (Donna Clark) and Toby Huss (John Bosworth). Joining the cast this season is Anna Chlumsky (Veep) as Dr. Katie Herman, Chief Ontologist.
Season Four, comprised of ten episodes kicks off with So It Goes. A nicely shot and edited opening sequence brings viewers up to speed on what has transpired since last season’s finale. An estranged Cameron remains in Tokyo leaving Joe and Gordon without a completed version of their browser.
Gordon’s 40th birthday party pulls out all the stops including a performance by the Blue Man Group and Cameron’s return. Five months in Japan have done little to temper the ill will Joe feels towards her. Things become even more awkward when Donna comes by to pick up Haley and Joanie after the party.
So It Goes is a complex study in the way ambition and pride become entangled in the affairs of the heart and business. Strong performances, which are a hallmark of the series, continue in the premiere and the editing and cinematography help to make So It Goes a satisfying and intriguing start for Halt’s final season.
