Into the Badlands returns to the small screen March 19 for its highly anticipated second season March 19 on AMC. The martial arts drama created quite a stir during its debut season with its wondrous mix of martial arts and mysticism set in a feudal society.
If the first few episodes of Season 2 are any indication, Into the Badlands promises to top what transpired last season. Sunny finds himself a prisoner in a mining camp and is forced to rely on a new ally, Bajie to help him find his way back to Veil. M.K., under the tutelage of a mysterious sect, continues to hone his powers while fighting the darkness that seethes within him. The Barons continue their quest for power. Ryder struggles to fill his father’s shoes while dealing with continued attacks from the Widow.
AMC’s breakout hit was one of the best looking shows on television featuring dynamic martial arts action and richly colored sets and costumes. Although the show’s visual palette is a little muted this season to reflect some characters’ fall from grace, the balletic action sequences will continue to be one of the highlights of each episode. In anticipation of the season premiere AMC has released videos chronicling the casts’ preparation for this season’s fight scenes. In the world of Into the Badlands everyone’s dangerous.
Here’s AMC’s synopsis for the upcoming season:
Season two of the martial arts drama finds Sunny (Daniel Wu) and M.K. (Aramis Knight) separated and scattered to the wind, each imprisoned in unlikely places. While M.K. struggles to control his powers, Sunny is determined to fight his way back into the Badlands to find his family or die trying. On their journey, Clipper and Colt are assisted by new allies whose motivations may be anything but pure. Meanwhile, The Widow (Emily Beecham) continues to consolidate power against the other Barons, while a dark and mysterious threat prepares to exact revenge on them all. Alliances are struck, friendships betrayed, and by season’s end, Sunny and M.K.’s lives will be forever altered. Into the Badlands also stars Ally Ioannides as Tilda, Oliver Stark as Ryder, Orla Brady as Lydia, Sarah Bolger as Jade, Madeleine Mantock as Veil, and Stephen Lang as Waldo. Joining the cast for season two is Nick Frost as Bajie, who becomes an unlikely ally for Sunny in his journey back to the Badlands.
Into the Badlands returns Sunday, March 19 on AMC.
