Comic Book Men 607 “Wurst Episode Ever”

This week’s episode of Comic Book Men featured an obscure retro electric toy, a 40 year old piece of Spider-Woman memorabilia, Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers New Jersey premiere and one of the gang found himself in the more than capable hands of special effects legend Robert Kurtzman. Wurst Episode Ever was anything but and really highlighted the fun and interesting happenings at the Stash.

A vintage toy came across the checkout counter at the Stash and while its significance escaped Walt, it brought backfond memories from Ming’s childhood. Big Trax was released in 1979 and was one of the first electronic toys on the market. The programmable toy tank could hold up to sixteen commands and even fired “blue lasers”. Although the tank is in working order, Walt doesn’t share Ming’s enthusiasm for it. The deal soon turns from procuring Big Trax for the store to making it a part of Ming’s collection with humorous results.

Kevin shares the details on his latest flick, Yoga Hosers starring his daughter Harley. The film centers around two Canadian girls who have to save Canada from an invasion of miniature Nazi’s made of bratwurst. When the Yoga Hosers media tour made its way to Jersey and Kevin put Ming in charge of the event. To take the premiere to the next level, Robert Kurtzman transforms Ming into one of the villains of the movie. As Kurtzman preps Ming, he talks a little bit about where he learned his craft while Walt, Bryan and Mike get a few laughs at their friend’s expense.

The theme of rare collectibles continued when a customer brought in a Spider-Woman cork board from 1980. Produced by Willow Works, the cork board even surprised resident popculturist, Robert Bruce who had only seen a few of its kind online. The scarcity of the item and Spider-Woman’s relatively low popularity make for some interesting bargaining before a deal is struck.

The Yoga Hosers premiere featured some of the gang’s closest friends including Brian “Q” Quinn (Tell ‘Em Steve-Dave), Brian O’Halloran (Clerks), Jayson Mews, and some of the film’s stars Genesis Rodriguez and Kevin’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith. After introducing her dad, Harley Quinn roasted Kevin in honor of his birthday.

Wurst Episode Ever was another enjoyable addition to the Comic Book Men episode list. Although it was light on collectibles the banter between the guys, the Yoga Hosers premiere and lessons in Canadian dialect more than made up for it.
