cover_newts_cv1There are people who are in the comic industry who are a household name. From Frank Miller to Robert Kirkman these are just some of the talented people who have graced us with great stories. However, it is hard to get started in this industry and what if someone was willing to give you a chance? DC started a writers’ workshop earlier this year and this is a showcase of their newest artists and storytellers. Welcome to New Talent Showcase #1 a collection of nine stories that will cater to more than a few of you.

This issue has nine stories as previously stated dealing with high profile characters such as Wonder Woman, Superman and Harley Quinn to some of the lesser known characters including Deadman and Hellblazer. I won’t go into some of these stories but I will say that there is some real talent in this issue. There are some great concepts explored here and one of my favorites has to be the White Lantern story. This story entitled Dead Beacons takes place on a derelict ship and two salvage seekers think they have found the score of a lifetime. However, all is not as it seems as there is something lurking on this ship.

There are more than a few great stories and art that grace this volume. For some however, the almost $8.00 price tag might deter you from buying this book. I would go ahead and check out the website as there are some samples of the book available online.

If you want to check out some of the newest and up and coming writers in the DC universe then you need to get this book. For more information on this and other comics head over to www.dccomics.com and get ready to discover some new talent.
