Comic Book Men 605 “Bionic Customer”

Pop culture royalty paid a visit to the Stash when Lindsay Wagner, the Bionic Woman herself, stopped by for a visit. That wasn’t the only highlight of Bionic Customer as Jem and Ghostbuster toys sparked another round of playful banter and brought back some 80’s nostalgia.

To kick things off a customer brought in a 1986 Ghostbusters Firehouse play set. One of the defining elements of the play set that made it truly special was the fact it contained an unopened container of slime. Walt’s interest in the collectible rekindles a memory of when he and original Ghostbuster, Ernie Hudson spent some time together in an ice cream truck.

Lindsay Wagner popped into the store in search of a Silver Surfer piece of memorabilia and her presence leaves Walt speechless. Before getting into the details of her visit, talk turned to the cultural significance of The Bionic Woman and the impact it had when it was on the air. The show had such an effect on Walt that he recalled that when he was a child he chose a Bionic Woman lunch box over one featuring the Six Million Dollar Man. The guys also have some fun talking about the show and some of its iconic moments including the fembots. Before leaving the Stash, a 2005 Silver Surfer chrome statue, sculpted by the great Randy Bowen is brought out for Lindsay. She picked up the statue as a gift for her son who was a Silver Surfer stunt double in the 2007 Fantastic Four movie.

Some truly outrageous merchandise makes its way into the store when a customer brings in some Jem and the Holograms dolls. The dolls based of the Hasbro/Sunbow cartoon from the mid 80’s elicit some nostalgia and a deal is soon made.

Bionic Customer was a great episode that brought back some warm memories from the 70’s and 80’s. Spending time with Lindsay Wagner and looking at all of the great toys from that era was a neat trip through time to our childhood when bionics, ghosts and cartoons based on MTV stars ruled the day.
