Back in the 80’s there were many iconic movies released especially horror movies. One of the most memorable ones for me has to be Lost Boys. This was one movie that took all of the vampire tropes and stood them on their heads. With a great cast of characters as well as a compelling story and great soundtrack it was destined to be a classic. DC Comics has decided to continue the story with Lost Boys #1 but is this a tale that you will want to read or should you stick with the old move instead?
The story takes place in the iconic location of Santa Carla, California and starts out with Sam at his comic shop. He is trying to sell a comic based on the frog brothers vampire hunting exploits to a customer in the shop. Unfortunately the only thing the customer wanted was the latest Dark Knight Returns as he tries to help another female customer. However Sam manages to drop the ball as she walks out of the shop as we see what Michael is up to. He is taking care of some people in an old folks home. It seems that things are normal in the town of Santa Carla but there is a storm brewing on the horizon. What is in store for the iconic frog brothers and will they be able to rise above this occasion? All I can say is you need to read the book to find out what happens!
Lost Boys is being written by someone who is no stranger to horror and that is Tim Seeley. Tim has written for such titles as G.I. Joe, Grayson and G.I. Joe vs Transformers. He is also the co-creator of the Hack/Slash series as well as the Image Comics title Loaded Bible. Tim is keeping with the original movie and clearly respects the source material. The art for Lost Boys #1 is being done by Scott Godlewski. He has worked on a few comics for Vertigo (Dark and Bloody), Boom Studios (Dracula and Codebreakers) and Image (Copperhead). His art style is great and is in tune with the movie. You get the impression that we are getting the sequel we should have gotten years ago.
If you are a fan of the Lost Boys, vampires or the 80’s you need to go out and get this book. All I can say is that I have read and re-read this comic and I cannot wait for the next issue!
