There are many multiplayer games online today but none of them can match the scope of World of Tanks. With the ability to pilot a range of tanks ranging from light armor to artillery it is a great game to play with your friends. Now the folks over at Dark Horse Comics have made a comic based on the popular online game. But will this comic recreate some of the great moments in the game or should you just play the online?
World of Tanks doesn’t just focus on one group over another instead it evenly tells the story between the Germans and the British as they fight for territory in war-torn Europe. Taking place 30 days after D-Day it shows the coming ashore of B Squadron commanded by Second Lieutenant Simon Linnet. As they come off the beach they see the wreckage of a few German tanks — the remnants of a failed attack on Normandy beach. Lying in wait is a squad of German Panther tanks that were cut off in the failed attack and have been undergoing maintenance. Lead by the imposing Hauptmann Karl Kraft he knows that more British forces will be coming soon and he needs to have his tanks operational. Without giving out details of the story the rest of the issue is filled with a mix of action as these two forces clash in fire and steel.
World of Tanks is written by the one and only Garth Ennis, who has penned some of the most iconic tales in the world of comics today. From the award winning (and now AMC series) Preacher to his other tales of war in Battlefields you can tell this is going to be a great series. The characters interact well with each other and you actually get drawn into the story. The art done by Carlos Ezquerra who most people know as the co-creator of Judge Dredd. He has also given his talents to other projects including working with Garth Ennis on both Battlefields and Preacher. He does a great job of bringing the action of war to the page seeing these metal beasts prowl the devastated lands of Europe.
Whether you are a fan of the online game, love the history of World War II or tanks in general World of Tanks #1 does not disappoint. With great art and an even better story this is one comic you need to check out. For more information on this comic head over to www.darkhorse.com and get ready to roll out!
