Tom Clancy’s The Division Coming To Theatres
The Division, Ubisofts newest hit, has been a massive success for the gaming company. The game managed to make more than $330 million in five days, and broke the first week sales record for newest game title quite soundly. That said, Ubisoft has firmly established The Division as a game that most gamers will both know, but also love. With that in mind, it was only a small hop on the logic train to understand that Ubisoft might want to cash in on this success…By creating a movie.
According to rumours going around, The Division is currently in development under Ubisoft’s film branch. The rumour even goes so far as to state that Jake Gyllenhaal, Ubisoft’s former Prince of Persia star, is attached to the project as a producer, and perhaps will be starring as the main protagonist.
The project itself is in its infancy stages, and no real details regarding the films story or release window could be confirmed as of yet. If true though, this won’t be Gyllenhaal’s first foray into the video game movie world though hopefully it will be to much better success than the Prince of Persia movie was.
It was a horrible movie readers, utterly terrible.
Ubisoft seems to be finding themselves attached to more than a few game to movie adaptions, Assassin’s creed being another one in the works. A movie which is slotted for a December 2016 release, and stars Michael Fassbender in its lead role. Additionally, the studio is developing a Splinter Cell movie, which stars Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher.
As you can see an assortment of adaptions are slated to be coming to the big screen, with the Warcraft movie being the first of many to be knocking at our doors. We can only hope that one of these movies will finally break the tradition that has been set by movie companies everywhere, the creation of horrible movie adaptions.
Let’s keep swinging by production companies, and hit a home run.
