What do you get when you cross Her Majesty’s Secret Service with disenfranchised youth and hip hop culture? Kingsman: The Secret Service chronicles a spy organization’s attempt to recruit a street kid into their organization. Directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong, Mark Hamil, Samuel L. Jackson and Targon Egerton, Kingsman is based on a comic book by Mark Millar.

Kingsman shares the same DNA as Millar’s comic book miniseries Wanted, which also focused on a young man trying to fulfill his destiny. This time around, instead of dealing with the world of assassins, Millar tackles the world of espionage. Targon Egerton portrays Eggsy, a kid who is pulled off the streets of London by Colin Firth’s Harry Hart. Hart, channeling Yoda and David Niven, attempts to transform Eggsy into a world class spy.

If the trailer is any indication, Kingsman is an action packed romp that doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously. The image of the perennially bad-ass Samuel L. Jackson wearing a twisted ball cap elicits chuckles as the main villain in the piece. Jackson’s turn as a villain and the homage to James Bond and spy films should produce another hit for Vaughn, Millar and 20th Century Fox.
