Comic Book Men 507 “Making Clay”

In this week’s Comic Book Men episode, Making Clay things got a little animated at the Stash, a couple of vintage toys make an appearance and Ming puts the gang in stitches with an interesting “what if” question.

Walt gets nostalgic when a customer brings in a Zuni Fetish Doll from the 70’s horror anthology, Trilogy of Terror. The doll, which was issued in 2004, gets Walt’s heart beating a little faster and he’s ready to make a deal. The topic of the doll and bad luck comes up during the negotiation and creeps Ming out.

Brian Quinn, an honorary Comic Book Men member and co-host of the podcast Tell ‘Em Steve-Dave!, drops by the Stash to chat with Bryan and Walt about the progress of their claymation film. Walt, Bryan and Brian are in the process of making a claymation film in the same vain as the classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer special and Davey and Goliath series. With the bulk of the filming complete, the trio is in search of voice actors and has chosen the Stash for their talent pool.

Another customer stops by the shop looking to unload a box of loose toys and figures. Walt warns him that they rarely take loose figures and seems unimpressed as he rummages through the box. This continues for a few minutes until Mike and Walt stumble across a gem: parts of a 1976 Masketron action figure from The Six Million Dollar Man toy line. After reassembling the doll, Walt gets to relive his childhood by checking out the limb launching capability of the figure.

The auditions for the claymation film begin with the staff of the Stash including Mike, Ming Sunday Jeff and Kevin Smith’s cousin, Johnny reading lines from the film’s script. The auditions are funny and entertaining with unexpected performances from Mike and Ming earning praise from the film’s producers.

One of the funniest parts of Making Clay was the segment where Ming asked the gang if they would take a pill to make a man pregnant. The banter between Bryan, Mike, Walt and Ming was priceless.
