Ubisoft Teaches The Next Generation

There’s not much I miss about being in high school. There was way to much home work, the awkward phase of trying to get girls to like me, and even the horribleness of figuring out where I belonged in the social scale. That said, if there was one thing I wished that could be added to my high school career it be being able to learn from Ubisoft game designers.
I’m not prone to jealous fits often, but you’ll forgive me for this one lapse.
As part of a new mentor ship program coordinated by a non profit organization by the name of Youth Fusion, and a generous donation by Ubisoft tallying towards 8 million in their bid to help education, we have children learning from the best and the brightest in the video game industry. This new program is taking place in LaSalle Community Comprehensive High School located in Quebec, and seems to have a full class load.
However, students are quickly realizing that designing games is much harder than they first believed. One such student, Chloe Polson, has recently traded in her sketch pad for a computer one and realized that it wasn’t an easy switch. She even stated as such when interviewed by CTV:
“I am not completely used to it yet. I’m Just kinda getting the feel for it and people are teaching me about it.”
As a gamer, it makes me happy to see that new talent is being nurtured by the company. That said, Ubisoft has pledged to use that 8 million dollar donation to work with students of all ages. This ranges from Pre-teens to Post – Doctoral individuals. This is done in the attempt to give these individuals the motivation they need to succeed in the video game industry and to give them an understanding that they would not have had otherwise. After all, at the end of the class they are able to see their work not only finished, but also released by Ubisoft to the public.
Now that’s a reason to finish the homework.
This news can’t help but be well received by us over at Comix asylum and The Save Spot. With that in mind as a fan of Ubisoft’s many works, and their future works, I tip my hat to you for this new initiative. I hope other companies take up the call as well and try to help nurture the very people who one day will be working for their companies.
