Rise of The Tomb Raider Free Trial
Author: S.A.

Normally I don’t revel when a company does poorly, especially when it involves the loss of sales for a gaming company that I truly think has been showing promise. However, when Crystal Dynamics made their hot new title Rise of The Tomb Raider an Xbox Exclusive, I was truly displeased with them. Especially since I’ve been a loyal Sony user for many years, and Tomb Raider had always been one of the games designed solely for the systems use. However, once the company made a huge splash with their previous Tomb Raider game in 2013 they decided to change things up. It seems that their previous romping grounds were to small for the company, and they moved on to bigger and better things.

Except, it seems like they haven’t.

So with the switch in allegiance, and the sudden announcement by Microsoft that the Rise of The Tomb Raider will have a free trial play, I’ve been left slightly amused at their lack of success. For this trial comes at a low point in sales for the critically acclaimed game, for let us not make a mistake, it is a fantastic game. However the company did itself a disservice by not only launching along side the long awaited Fallout 4, but also only a week ahead of Star Wars: Battlefront. Not only that, but it likely lost more than a few fans with it’s port over to another console, which likely worked in conjunction with the other factors to take a hit on their sales greatly.

While Microsoft claims that the game has sold well, this free trial suddenly becoming available to us would lend credence that they may not be as pleased with the games sales as they could be. The trial is actually the full game download, coming in at 20GB’s. With a few of the main story missions available to us, and some of the open world available to explore, Microsoft seems to be banking on players falling in love with the game. Once they do, you can pay for the release of the full game model, and access the rest of the story at your leisure.

Personal feelings aside, while I am amused at the lack of success that has been inflicted upon Crystal Dynamics, I still believe Rise of The Tomb Raider is a must buy for those of you looking for a new game to sink your teeth into. It truly finishes up the development that Laura Croft is going through in order to reach the infamous nature that has allowed her to be infamous throughout her fictional realm. Not only is it fun, but it’s also heart felt and an emotionally driven game.
