It’s that time again for another crash course in protecting the world and saving the day! I wonder what the story will be this time, and if there are magical crystals that are in danger. Either way, we’re going to have to wait well into 2016 for this newest addition to the Final Fantasy series, as they are still working in pre-beta. And some of you will be happy to know that SquEnix is trying to work in Moogles! Initially the focus was to create a real-life narrative that revolves around humans so Moogles were dropped from the plans. But, due to popular demand SquEnix announced that they are going to try to reincorporate them into the game somehow.
Check out my SquEnix Custom whip… Aw yeahhhhhhh!
So what is new this time around? The fighting mechanics, first of all! The new system (called the Active Cross Battle system) is an adaptation from Kingdom Hearts, where enemies show up in the natural environment and a gauge shows up giving you a certain amount of time to run away. If you don’t get away, looks like you’re in the battle! No more transition screens, the battle becomes integrated into the environment.
Best way to fight a behemoth? Fight the floor instead.
The main character, Noctis, is (unfortunately?) the only playable character of the game, though there are still parties. The other characters will work somewhat like the Gambit system from FF XII where you pre-set certain conditions and playstyles for those support characters. You will be able to change their battle styles from the battle menu. But what’s cool about this battle system is that it will be RTS fighting where each button is given an action, giving the player much more diversity in fighting styles. You can even combo attack with your peons—er… party members! And magic doesn’t work the same way as in previous titles. MP will be specifically for performing special attacks like teleporting and evading attacks.
Remember Summons? Well, Noctis is essentially our favourite summoner (pick one: Rydia, Yuna, Garnet, everyone in FFV, so on and so on), and thus is the only person capable of summoning creatures called Archaeans! They’re being ranked in a system that includes attacking power and SIZE. The classic summon Leviathan, one of the larger summons, being among one of the highest-ranked summons. And of course, you have to defeat the summons in battle before you can earn the ability to summon them.
Looks like dinner for a whole year!
So like I said at the top of the article, this game still has a long way to go before it’s finished and ready to be shipped out, so be prepared for changes to some or any of this information. I mean, look at the Moogles, they managed to float right back into our lives. One thing that won’t change is that I’m looking for another excuse to save the world. I’m getting to be a professional at it!
