Before I say anything, please just watch the short trailer below dear reader. It will make you feel as if The Legend of Zelda has transformed into something that can’t be put into words. Then it will proceed to make you want to open up your wallet and buy a WiiU.

It looked beautiful right? If you’re thinking otherwise somewhere, somehow, Ganondorf will get you.

It’s the nineteenth instalment in one of the longest franchise running games of all time. That said, as a gamer I feel as if I should be getting tired by these continuous renditions of our favourite hero, and yet here I am waiting to throw my money at it. The game itself is another single player adventure that allows us access to what is seemingly a vast expansive Hyrule land. I say expansive because it seems that Nintendo plans on this being a very “open world” type of game. That’s right folks, less linear game play with more choices and options being gifted to us as the player.

This freedom of choice I feel will greatly change the scope of the Zelda world, if its delivered as advertised. Think back, those of you who’ve played at least a few of the Zelda games, on how annoying it was to get to an area that seemed explorable on your map only to be turned away. Whether it was by a defined entrance that magically couldn’t be entered, or a seemingly silly object that Link seemingly couldn’t cut through like a wooden barricade. You were often told that you needed a specific item to go any further and had your progress halted. This was very frustrating, especially in games like Wind Waker where you spent large periods of time merely travelling the open sea to these designated areas, only to be turned away and have to go back. With that in mind, lets hope that I won’t be turned away

3_Trick1_Large                                Can’t blow up the wooden fence, nope, had to fly over it.

The plot is still a mystery to us, but given the franchises history I’m sure it involves evil plaguing the land and Link galloping in to save the day in one form or another. We don’t know about all the new gadgets that the game is going to feature, but an interesting new ability to be show cased is the ‘arrow time’ that Link is now capable of. When he leaps of Epona to engage an enemy, Link seemingly slows down time for a moment and can carefully take aim with his bow at approaching foes.

The-Legend-of-Zelda-Wii-U-E3-2014-1            I feel like in the gap between games Link has somehow met Max Payne in a forum discussion.

In any case this is a hot new title coming out in 2016, and even though I don’t as of yet own a Wii U myself…I’m going to get it on sheer principle alone.
