Microsoft Leading the Cross Platform Game Play Charge
Author: S.A.
Despite writing articles, I am a gamer first and fore most. That said, when some exciting and ground breaking ideas are dropped into the gaming world my body begins to shiver in excitement. For when the gaming world changes, I adapt and change along with it. Microsoft is bringing me some excitement finally, even with me being a firm Sony player, and I hope they succeed in their ambitions.
Microsoft want’s to give us Cross Platform Gameplay.
What I mean is that Microsoft wants gamers to be capable of playing with their Sony brethren or PC counterparts on similar titles.
The first game to be brought to term in this exciting new venture would be Rocket League.
Upon launching such a grandiose idea, Microsoft extended “an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”
Here is where things get iffy, and rather disappointing.
With the ball placed in Sony’s hands on how to respond, the gaming giant gave a rather lack luster response. Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony Worldwide, said that:
“Connecting two different closed networks is much more complicated so we have to work with developers and publishers to understand what it is they are trying to accomplish….we also have to look at the technical aspect – and the technical aspect could be the easiest. We also have to look at policy issues and business issues as well.”
Essentially it doesn’t seem like Sony is ready to play ball.
This is especially true given the fact that nearly 48 hours later the Rocket League team had already figured out the necessary steps to bride the two different consoles. The only thing left to figure out, according to Jeremy Dunham who is Psyonix’s vice president, is the political nonsense that Sony will likely need to muddle through to approve the idea.
So with Xbox on Board, and Psyonix ready to connect the systems, all we need now is for Sony to remember that gamers love competiting. That to connect us with our Xbox counterparts for online warfare would not only be fun, but a changing stand point for the gaming community.
Come on Sony, don’t be a douche.
