The Witness Sells 100,000 Copies
Author: S.A.
The puzzle platforming game, The Witness, has being doing surprisingly well over the week of its release. The game, according to creator Jonathan Blow, has sold “substantially” more than 100,000 copies across the various platforms it is available on. While unable to tell us exact numbers, due confidentiality agreements, Jonathan Blow states that the game is selling equally well on both the PS4 and PC.
Their sales numbers must be pleasing to the company, especially given that their previous game was hardly what one would call a success. The Witness has sold upwards of $5 million in recent history while Braid, another puzzle platform, sold considerably less. Even the asking price for the two games differs greatly, The Witness going for $40, while Braid went for a disappointing $15.
Goes to show what hard work can do for you.
The company is expecting the sales for the game to stay constant, and are seriously predicting a port over to not only Xbox One, but also the Android and iOS. That said, while Blow states quite clearly that The Witness wasn’t made to garner the company money and that the developers over at Thekla just wanted to create a “beautiful/interesting/intricate thing, first and foremost” we over at TSS are sure it doesn’t hurt any.
The game itself is getting high scores across the board for its inventive puzzles, and requires more than a few play throughs to beat all the mysteries within. It’s easy to not understand some of the puzzles available, but the clues exist for the determined and are for those of us who want a real thinker. That said readers, don’t cheat by looking at a play through.
Solve the puzzles yourself.
