Play Video Games in This High School Esports Class
Author: S.A.
If you were like me, drama or social studies likely wasn’t for you in high school. Then maybe a class on esports would have been more your speed. That said, that’s what a high school in Norway is offering, and the games of choice range from League of Legends, Dota 2, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
The education system is changing, and I for one am quite glad.
Garnes Vidaregaande Skule is the first high school in Norway to provide such an opportunity, and has me green around the gills with jealousy. The class is offered as an elective, much like how high schools offer additional courses in the sports or arts. The above clip is a promotional add done for the newly offered class and is prone to getting a gamers blood boiling.
The class is slotted to start in August of 2016. To be fair to the variety of video games in the market, the school will hold a poll to decide on the two most popular choices amongst students. In an interview, a science department manager from the shcool stated that no matter the game text books won’t be apart of the course load.
My dream at last.
The course is suppose to offer in depth knowledge on whatever games offered. They have also stated that the game room will be available for practice both during the day and evening times to ensure maximum practice. In said gaming room there will be about “15 high-end gaming PCs”. Though don’t think all that students will be doing is playing games. At any given time, half the class will be working on skills such as reflex, general body strength, and endurance training.
This general training is done to allow students to bond and begin to think of each other as a team, that shall work together in all their future prusits if they wish to pursue a career in the growing Major League Gaming market.
All in all, these students are living in a brand new age of gaming.
Awesome.
