Not all games will push the mold in terms of game play, graphics, or even story. Yet that doesn’t stop simple from being fun. I say this because that’s what Teslagrad is, a simple yet fun game that one can play through without bashing their heads into the wall from sheer frustration at a level. The love of this game seems to run deep in the gaming community, amongst those in the know at least, for the game seems to keep being released for new platforms over the years. With an initial debut date in 2013 for Steam, the game has found itself subsequent releases on multiple gaming platforms over the years due to its surprising success.
A boy with an untold story…
The story is set in a steam punk version of old Europe, in a very non linear progression world with a variety of hand drawn environments. The player finds themselves placed in the Kingdom of Elektropia, wherein a dictator King rules with absolute power. The King’s only competition lies in a secret sect of wizards that have technological wonders at their disposal, and have a tower in the middle of the city named Teslagrad as their stronghold. One day, a young orphaned boy(our protagonist) finds himself suddenly finds himself hunted by the King and his guards. With little choice in terms of where to go, the boy flees into the tower and begins to uncover the history of the land, and his own at the same time.
The game itself is merely a 2D puzzle plat former in which we must employ the power of magnetism and other related marvels as our method of progression. We don’t truly ‘fight’ to often in the game, as most of the games difficulty lies in its precise platforming experience. How we use the powers given to us, in conjunction with the environement, will determine our success throughout the game. That said, those of you who hate having to fight a million little critters along the way have very little to worry about in terms of stress.
Use the Tesla Cloak to float up to the top….
Teslagrad is definitely a fun game to play when you have a free moment, with very little stress involved and a surprising amount of enjoyment to be gained from. Also as a bonus to the economic gamer, since it’s been out on steam for so long it can be purchased for under 5$ dollars easy. How can you go wrong there?
