Rare Replay Review
Platform: Xbox One
Developer: Rare
Publisher: Microsoft Studios

Before I explain what Rare Replay is, I’m going to ask you a favour. I’m going to ask you to remember all those fun times you use to have with your friends in front of the game consoles of your childhood. Got it? Well here comes a resurgence of all those good memories and experiences in Microsoft’s smartest bid, aimed at the heart of the child that still exists within many gamers.

Rare-ReplaySo many games…I think you just shed a tear. You did, didn’t you.

Rare Replay isn’t just one game, but rather a combination of 30 games, all of which were previously developed by Rare and its predecessor. There is no specific genre concentration for this game, but rather it spans a plethora of our favourite genres. Once you purchase this game, and you will once your inner child demands it, you’ll have a multitude of choices at your fingertips ranging from first person shooters, gardening games, racing games, and even fighting games.

While the core components of the selected games remain unchanged, certain features have been added to the older ones to add to the already memorable experience. One such feature being the ‘rewind’ function, which allows you to go back ten seconds in pre Nintendo 64 games. Also the ability to save progress, remember we couldn’t do that once upon a time, has been added in to allow us the luxury of exploring at our leisure. If that wasn’t enough, the infinite lives cheat that exists on some of the games was made for those of us who play far to carelessly with our characters, or quit because the game was far to hard for us to begin with.

All in all, while Rare Replay doesn’t add anything new to the world, it does bring back one heck of a gaming experience. It’s a cheap buy too, 30 bucks, for thirty games….can you beat that?
