Announced way back in December 2011, Epic Games revealed the title Fortnite to the public! And we’ve heard nothing since. That was until early 2014, when they announced that the game will actually be a free-to-play game. Now, I know all you hardcore gamers clam up at the horrifying sounds of “free-to-play” and instantly banish the title into a realm of unwarranted shame. However, this game will hopefully be a game that can break that stigma.

fortnite-game-informerWhat’s known so far is that this game is a co-op sandbox survival game and, as Tim Sweeney (founder of Epic Games) says, it aims to be a combination of classic games Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. The game is split into two general zones: daytime and nighttime. During the daytime, it’s in your best interest to get out of your fort and collect resources, rebuild defenses, create new traps, and go loot farming! During the nighttime, waves of enemies need to be fought off. Forts are built with walls pieces that are 3×3 giving you the option to personalize that wall by adding in windows or what have you. You can even add stairs or build trapdoors!

Maps are randomly generated and various weapons are scattered throughout! These include ranged weapons like sniper rifles, and short-range melee weapons like swords. This favourite melee weapon of choices is important because there are also four different classes to choose from, one of which is, of course, ninja. Each class has a unique ability which makes strategizing important when fending off hordes of zombies. Using the new Unreal 4 Engine, this game looks like it’ll run smooth as freshly zambonied ice (sorry, it’s cold and snowy as I write this). It is also said to possibly support 10-player pvp!

Honestly, this game looks freaking great for a free-to-play game. For me, it’s like combining Edge of Reality’s Loadout’s graphics and controls, Minecraft’s building function, and Left 4 Dead’s survival aspect. And it looks like a barrel of fun! Just check out the latest trailer above and decide for yourself.
