Nintendo is back, and they brought along their favourite friends for another shot at fun. Mario and Luigi are back in what is sure to be yet another Nintendo classic Mario and Luigi Paper Jam. The characters need no introduction, and the game features a combination of two different Mario worlds as one, the paper world and the normal Mario world. This is brought about by our clumsy butler Luigi, who accidentally trips and knocks over a mysterious book that contains all the characters of the Paper Mario world. This bumble causes the paper thin counterparts to spread across the Mushroom Kingdom and doubles up on the trouble in already troubled land. However It also means that we’ve doubled up on the heroes.
Two Marios in one game? Poor Goombas.
Will need the extra help though, with paper Bowser combining his already large army with normal Bowser, they kidnap both versions of Princess Peach and make a clean get away. With a rescue mission in the works it seems only natural that Paper Mario will join in on Mario and Luigi’s bid at heroics as they try to return all the paper back people to their world. Plus with all the extra Goombas and other evil doers, an extra pair of hands is definitely warranted.
Here comes the boom.
The game mechanics are as simple as always, making the players use Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario as a trio to progress through the challenges the game has to offer. In addition to the normal movies and capabilities available to our Mushroom King friends, they can now work as a unit, incorporating Paper Mario’s unique skill set to progress through the game. That means we can squeeze through tight gaps that would normally be unavailable to us, make various copies of yourself to handle enemies, or even turning into a paper air plane to help the brothers land safely in a tricky situation. The various boss bottles you’ll encounter throughout the game will use these new mechanics in various ways, and will involving quick time mechanics that will have players just barely squeezing out a victory.
So buckle up for another Mariotastic ride.
